Silicate Paint
Silicate paint, also called mineral paint, uses a potassium silicate (liquid glass) binder instead of a plastic acrylic one. Rather than sitting on the wall as a film, it reacts with the mineral surface and bonds to it chemically, a process called petrification. The result is an extremely durable, colourfast finish that stays highly breathable and mineral matt, and naturally resists mould and algae thanks to its alkalinity. Silicate paints suit lime and cement render, brick, stone, concrete and plaster, which makes them a favourite for heritage and listed buildings as well as modern eco builds.

Silicate paints bond best to bare mineral surfaces, and some substrates need a compatible primer first, so always check the product data sheet before you start.
