Grey Paints

Grey Paints

Grey wall paints are part of our range of natural colours of natural wall paint and wood paints. If you are looking for pure white wall paints, have a look at the Auro 524 white, or Graphenstone white, or if a slight dash of colour is required try the range of off white paint colours

Grey paints have gained popularity for their ability to provide a sophisticated and neutral backdrop that complements a variety of interiors. Used a lot more recently in modern new build homes, perhaps due to the lack of wooden fixtures and fittings and often white other walls, has allowed grey to become an easy choice if you have a preexisting colour palette from your furnishings.

Examples of Grey Wall Paint include

Warm Grey: A blend of white paint, raw umber, and a hint of burnt sienna creates a soft, inviting grey paint with soft brown undertones.

Cool Grey: Made using bright white mixed with black and blue oxide, this shade of grey has a crisp, modern appeal.

Charcoal Grey: Achieved by combining black pigments with ultramarine blue and a touch of white. This deep, moody grey is ideal for dramatic spaces.

Greige: A classically named mix of grey and beige pigments, such as raw umber and white, this hybrid shade offers warmth with a contemporary feel, and a funky name.

Soft Slate: A medium grey with hints of blue and green undertones, created using a blend of black, white, and natural earth pigments.

What shade of grey should I paint my walls?

For smaller rooms with less light, choose warmer greys. For rooms with lots of natural light you then have the option of cooler greys. I prefer warmer greys, I don't want rooms feeling colder or darker than some of them already are! Warm tones really help when your desired colour palette is grey.

What colours to paint walls with grey cabinets, furniture or floors?

Perhaps if you have grey furnishings then add some warmth into the room with some earthy tones, these always pair well. Alternatively off whites are always a great combination to lighten up rooms heavy in grey fittings and furnishings.

Why does my grey paint look blue on the wall?

Great paint can look slightly blue on the wall due to surrounding fixtures, fittings and furnishings. However, grey paints often have a subtle  blue tones, so it may be this.

How to paint over grey walls, or dark grey walls to turn them white?

Painting over grey requires the use of a colour balancing undercoat to make sure you get an even colour over the top of the existing dark grey paint. Use a white undercoat such as the Graphenstone trade emulsion before your top coat of Graphenstone white emulsion will make sure your white covers well. If you are using Auro paints, then just use the Auro 524 as the white topcoat, and water thin a coat first to use as the undercoat.

Should I paint my walls white or grey?

Painting your walls white, or off white can help a room seem larger, cleaner and more open, ideal for small rooms or just rooms with small windows. Lighter greys provide a neutral backdrop, and darker greys are a bit more cosy when paired with earthy coloured fabrics and furnishings. Warmer greys are better for darker rooms, but cooler greys can work if you have more natural light.
