Interior Wood Lye & Soap for Wooden Floors
Why use wood lyes and wood soaps?
Using lyes and soaps is a traditional way to protect, clean and enhance the look of wooden floors, especially common in Scandinavian countries where 'white' wooden floors are far more popular as standard.
What is wood lye, and what does it do?
The wood lye is applied first to the wood, the lye reacts with the wood which helps lighten and preserve the appearance of the natural wood surface, and also a way of reducing the 'yellowing' of softwoods.
What is wood soap, and what does it do?
After the lye has been applied and dried, the wood 'soap' (a confusing use of the word soap I agree!) is the follow up treatment which then protects and preserves the finish that the wood lye created. The wood soap further enhances the texture and colour of the wooden floor boards / wooden surface.
The wood soap is then reapplied to clean the wooden floors in the future, both cleaning and future protecting. It's a great system and has been used for many years.
Which lye and soaps should I choose?
If you have hardwood floors, choose the hardwood lye Auro 402, and for softwood floors use the softwood lye Auro 401. For whiter floors, then use the Auro 404 white, or for more standard floors use Auro 403 floor soap.
