Interior Emulsion Paint - Sustainable and Eco friendly alternatives
Interior Emulsion Paint - Sustainable and Eco friendly alternatives
Eco friendly and sustainable emulsion paints, without the levels of chemicals and toxins we somehow have just accepted as ‘the standard’. It’s not. The standards now are modern, hard wearing natural or sustainable alternatives that are just as hard wearing and durable as the chemical plastic based big brands.
These interior emulsion paints made from modern plant based binders and natural pigments or generally made from much more sustainable ingredients, and are a refreshing alternative to your old paints that off gas chemicals and formaldehyde into your air for literally months or even years in some cases.
Create a space that reflects your values, knowing that the eco creds and certificates are there to prove the claims. Natural emulsion interior paints just look better, there is no denying that the plastic sheen in normal big brand paints leads much to be desired, whereas natural mineral based paints reflect the light subtly and beautifully. You’ll see.

What is emulsion paint used for?
Emulsion paints are generally used primarily for interior walls and ceilings. Our specialist emulsion paints are available in lots of different finishes to suit each room and the mood you are going for. No matter which you use, they are all easy to apply, easy to use and offer excellent coverage and opacity.
Looking for more interior paints? We have a great range of all kinds of interior paints (and exterior paints), as well as many others such as Emulsion paints, interior gloss paints, satin, eggshell, matt, clay paint, undercoats as well as paints made with lime and chalk.
What is the difference between emulsion paint and normal paint?
Our emulsion paints don’t come with the chemical footprint of normal plastic and acrylic emulsion paints, which then offer better indoor air quality than if you had used conventional paints. Is emulsion and matt paint the same? Well, matt is more of a finish, rather than a product type. If you would like more of a satin finish, look at the interior eggshell emulsions, which also has the same level of excellent eco credentials.
What are the disadvantages of emulsion paint?
Emulsion paints are great for most interior walls and ceilings, but generally not the best choice for wood and trim. If you want to paint your wooden trim with the same colours, just select the Eggshell variant, which will give you better adhesion and better durability (as it’s not so matt - therefore picking up dirt more quickly) IE if you have used our hero emulsion Auro 555 for walls and ceilings, you could use the Auro 517 eggshell for your skirting boards, panels and trim. If you have used the Grafclean matt emulsion for your walls and ceilings, then use the Grafclean eggshell for all trim.
What does emulsion mean?
An ‘emulsion’ refers to the composition of the paint. Where you have oils, minerals and pigments suspended (generally) in water. Emulsions can easily be mixed with water, and make for easy tool and brush cleaning. Water based emulsion paints often dry faster, and emit far less VOCs.
