Quiet White - Natural Matt Wall Paint by Soil & Sky

A calm, flawless matt emulsion — bound with linseed and safflower oil instead of acrylic plastic. Made from 99% renewable and mineral raw materials, solvent-free, with barely any VOC, and class 1 coverage (the highest), so fewer coats. Why it’s different

Turn over almost any tin of ordinary emulsion and you’ll find the same quiet secret: the thing holding paint to your wall is acrylic, a petrochemical plastic. Quiet White does the same job with a field instead of a refinery. Its binder is made from linseed oil, safflower oil and modified plant resin — pressed and cooked rather than cracked and polymerised — carrying pigments of chalk and titanium dioxide in water. The result is a wall paint made from 99% renewable and mineral raw materials, with a flat, calm, harmonious matt that gives walls the softness old distempers were loved for, and the scrubbability they never had.

It’s solvent-free and plasticiser-free, with barely any VOC and the French A+ indoor-air rating, so there’s nothing evaporating into your evenings. Its class 1 hiding power — the highest DIN EN 13300 awards — is an eco feature wearing a performance badge: fewer coats means less paint made, shipped and thrown away per room. Full ingredients

Water, chalk, talc, titanium dioxide, binder from linseed oil, safflower oil and modified rosin resin, pigments, silicon dioxide, thickener, emulsifier, wetting agent, anti-foaming agent, manganese drier, preservatives: benzisothiazolinone, chloromethylisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone.

The honest bit

A water-based paint made largely from plant oils is, frankly, something microbes would love to eat — so Quiet White contains a very small amount of in-can preservative to keep it fresh until it’s on your wall. We’re required to tell you, and we’d tell you anyway: contains 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one; reaction mass of 5-chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one and 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one (3:1). May produce an allergic reaction. If you have a known isothiazolinone allergy, choose our preservative-free Mineral White instead, or contact us before ordering. For the same reason, Quiet White isn’t for permanently damp or mould-prone rooms — that’s Mineral White’s job. The natural raw materials can give a mild, characteristic scent while drying.

Keep out of the reach of children. If medical advice is needed, have the container or label to hand. Avoid contact with eyes and skin; rinse off splashes with plenty of water. Ventilate well while painting and drying. Don’t pour into drains or soil. Safety Data Sheet available on request.
