Safe, non toxic, water based artex removal paste for easy removal of artex and textured surfaces. X-Tex by Home Strip

Just bought a house and found rooms and rooms full of decades old Artex that you want to remove?

You’re not alone. It was so incredibly popular from the 1960’s through to the early 1980’s and has fallen (shock horror) out of fashion (even then it seemed dated!). So you’re stuck with it, you don’t know what to do… but you know it’s an awful job and you want rid of it.

BEWARE. Sadly, Artex often contained asbestos fibres, although fortunately not all artex did, you should still err on the side of caution when working with Artex. X-tex uses a water based solution that can remove artex without producing the harmful dust.

Whether you are a DIY or professional, Xtex can be used successfully to remove artex.

Please note, if you think there is more than just Artex, or more asbestos present, or just think things are a bit off, STOP and get a professional asbestos removal specialist to advise.

How to use X-Tex artex removing paste:

Prep: Clear area, remove furniture and as much stuff as possible around the area in case of splashes. Cover the floor with sheets to catch removed material and old paints.

Application: Use a brush and apply a generous layer of the paste. Leave the paste on for at least an hour ideally, or for super old coatings, you may need to leave it overnight.

Scraping: Once the surface has softened, use a scraper to lift old paint off. For multiple layers, scoring the surface with a blade can allow the paste to penetrate more deeply.

Rinsing: Once the textured surface has been removed, clean the area with soapy water to remove residue.

Disposal: Double bag the removed material and dispose of it according to your local council's guidelines. If it contains asbestos, check with your local waste disposal facility.

Coverage and Application Times:

Coverage: 2-3m² per litre (depending on thickness and layers of coating).
Typical Removal Time:

Textured Coatings (e.g., Artex®): 15-30 minutes.
Textured Coatings + 1-2 Layers of Paint: Up to 1 hour.
Multi-layered Paint: 1 hour to overnight, depending on thickness.
