Orange Paint

Orange Paint

Orange Paint - Sustainable and Eco Friendly orange paints for walls, ceilings and wood trim - part of our range of natural paint colours

Traditionally, orange colour was made from natural pigments like ochre (iron oxide) - seen the earliest cave paintings. In medieval times it was use more to illuminate manuscripts and frescoes rather than walls.

15th - 17th century, rich and warm colours became popular in European interiors, for instance Venetia plaster often featured orange and terracotta tones. The later Baroque period used deeper colours, warm golds and the like to feature in their grand architectural designs.

The Georgians preferred subdued pastel colours over brighter colours, and it wasn't until the Victorian era where brighter wall paints were back in fashion.

The main period where bright yellows and oranges were used was the 1960s-70s, remnants of those bright walls lost under wallpaper of the same era.

These days, the more subtle and earthy oranges are popular, and less so anything super bright!

How do I paint over bright orange walls?

Bright orange walls can be a pain to overpaint, but it's still very possible. Clean and dry the wall, then apply a coat of white undercoat such as the Auro 321 white emulsion. Once dry, over paint with your chosen colour such as Auro 555 (2 coats). Usually one coat of the undercoat will be all that is needed to stop the bright orange walls showing through.

What colours go well with burnt orange walls?

Neutral wall paint shades or earthy tones always complement burnt orange walls, as do pale cream off white tones.
