Preparation:
If the surface to be treated is rough or if a previous surface coating finish (e.g. varnish, lacquer, etc.) is present, sand to smooth bare wood with 80-120 grit sandpaper. Some previously oiled surfaces can be overcoated, without sanding. To check compatibility, a trial application is essential when overcoating a previously oiled surface. Remove dust, dirt and any other contaminates which may lead to uneven absorption of Clear Hardwax Oil. Make sure the surface to be treated is thoroughly dry. Stir tins and ensure product is at room temperature before use. Enough product should be purchased to complete the whole project and when more than one container is required it is advisable to mix them together before use. We strongly recommend a small trial application prior to starting a project.
Application:
If you are treating oily/dense timbers e.g. Iroko, Ipe, Teak, Jarrah, Merbau etc. thin the first coat of Treatex Hardwax Oil Clear by mixing with approximately 10% Treatex Thinner. This enables the product to properly penetrate into these types of timbers. Use a brush or short gloss pile roller to evenly apply Treatex Hardwax Oil allowing roughly 30g per m². On worktops and doors etc. pay particular attention to end grain (on end grain apply wet on wet until product is no longer absorbed by the wood). Allow to dry – maintaining warmth and ventilation will enable the surface to dry within 3-6 hours. Apply with a brush or roller a second coat of Treatex Hardwax Oil, again allowing roughly 30g per m². Allow to dry thoroughly overnight before the surface is lightly used. The surface will reach maximum hardness after a further 24 hours.

Please Note! Clear Hardwax Oil must always be used as the final coat when Natural Hardwax Oil or Colour Tones are applied*
If Treatex Hardwax Oil is applied too thickly, drying time will be increased. To speed up drying time raise the room temperature and increase air flow by opening doors and windows, or using a fan.
Should not be used on darker timbers
